Sidney James Rider, Sr

Funeral services for Sidney James Rider, Sr. 41, of Denton, Texas formerly of Kilgore, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at New Hope Church of Christ with Brother Rufus Thorn as eulogist. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Victory Funeral Services.

 

Sidney James Rider was born in Henderson, Texas on Friday, March 16, 1979, to the parentage of Willie James Toliver and Auerecia Dale Rider. On Monday, March 1, 2021, on the birthday of his daughter, Jada Rider, he departed this life in Denton, Texas due to natural causes.

 

He was an active youth member of the New Hope Church of Christ where he was baptized in 1998.

 

In his youth he participated in choir and was active in sports excelling in football, especially during his high school years at Kilgore High School where he was a member of the graduating class of 1998.

 

During his working days he held employment in the health care industry and as a prison guard until his health failed. When not working he, affectionately known as the rapper, 80 Proof Rider, spent time fine tuning his craft of music production and presenting information on his podcast.  A lot of his spare time was spent as an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Lakers.

 

It was well known amongst his friends and associates the love he held for his children and his entire family as he was quick and constant to speak, write about, and show his affection for them.

 

His niece, Ledacia Rider, aunt, Linda Sue Toliver Anderson and his uncle, Eddie “Eight Ball” Toliver preceded him in death.

 

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Rider of Uganda, Africa; three children, Rhea Rider of Uganda, Africa; Jada Rider and Sidney James Rider, Jr. both of Denton, TX; mother, Auerecia Rider of Kilgore, TX; father, Willie James Toliver of Kilgore, TX; six siblings, Anthony Rossum of Kilgore, TX; Devin Rider and his wife, Amanda, Ashley Burnette and her husband, Walter, and Kevin Mumphrey and his wife, Nicole all of Longview, TX; Tiffany Mumphrey Garland and her husband, Isaac, III, and Michael Mumphrey all of Gladewater, TX; aunts, Sharon Rossum, and Artelia Palmer and her husband, Ronnie, Sr. all of Houston, TX; Robbie Rider and Belvery “Penny” Boone both of Kilgore, TX; uncles, Albert Lee Rider, II and his wife Beverly of Gladewater, TX; Wayne Joe Hamilton and his wife, Deborah of Kilgore, TX; Gary Toliver and his wife, Joyce of Longview, TX and Rodney Kenney and DeeDee of Gladewater, TX; and great-uncle, Norman Rossum of Kilgore, TX.

 

Others left to cherish his memory are special cousins, Corey Rider, Eric Boone, and Catina Rider all of Kilgore, TX; Samone Rider, Iesha Rider and Albert Lee Rider, III, and his wife, Renada of Longview, TX; Nia Palmer, Joshua Palmer and his wife, Helen, Jeffrey Palmer, Joseph Palmer and his wife, Alicia all of Houston, TX; and Ronnie Palmer, Jr.  and his wife, Lauren of Pacific Grove, CA; and a host of other relatives and friends.

 

Viewing will be held on Friday, March 12, 2021 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.at Victory Funeral Services via drive-thru or exterior walk up.

 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic social distancing and masks are required at the service.
