Mr. Elvis Lee Reeves “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”  Isaiah 40:31 Funeral services for Elvis Lee Reeves, 74, of Kilgore, TX, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2015 at New Birth Fellowship Church with Rev. Eric Love officiating and Rev. Gary L. Walker as eulogist. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Victory Funeral Services.Elvis was born to Dorothy Manning and Richard “Buster” Reeves on Thursday, December 14, 1940 in Kilgore, Texas and grew up in the Steber Grove Community. He departed this life on Monday, January 5, 2015 at Kilgore Health and Rehab Center.Many affectionately knew him as Jim Jack.  He graduated at New Hope High School and later attended Texas College. Early in life he united with St John Baptist Church and was known throughout the area for praising God gloriously in song. He enjoyed singing and traveling with various male choruses and choirs. He later became a member and deacon at Kilgore Baptist Church where he served faithfully for over 30 years until his health failed.. He lent his talents in many capacities as a soloist and member of the sanctuary choir, director of the youth choir and church custodian; as well as performing carpentry and plumbing to help maintain the church property. His work career concluded with retirement in 2000 after decades with Getty Oil Company which later became Texaco in 1984. He worked his way up to being one of few blacks in a supervisory position at that time.His first marriage to Charlene Rossum Reeves produced two children, Eddie and Pam. He later married Lillian Reeves and twins were born, Christopher and Craig. His parents, brother, Glen Reeves and sister, Brenda Fay Reeves preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory to his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Reeves of Kilgore, TX; his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Willie Williams of Kilgore, TX; sons and daughter-in-law, Eddie Wayne and Diane Reeves of Dallas, TX;. Christopher Reeves and Craig Reeves both of Lawrenceville, GA; brothers, Travis Williams, Louis Ray Reeves and Richard Reeves all of Kilgore, TX; sisters and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Richard Humphrey of Kilgore, TX; Carrie Reeves and Eleanor Reeves both of Longview, TX; grandchildren, Ryan Reeves , Roland Reeves, Ginger Orange and Synnamon Ferguson; three great-grandchildren, a stepson, Keith Gilliam of Amarillo, TX and stepdaughter, Millicent Gilliam of Kilgore, TX ; five step grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Public viewing will be Friday, January 9, 2014, starting at noon until 7:30 p.m. at Victory Funeral Services. There will be no viewing at the funeral service.
