Mary Louise Wheat Wilson

June 1, 1929 — February 12, 2021

Funeral services for Mary Louise Wilson, 91, of Overton, Texas will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 1 p.m. at New Birth Fellowship Church with Rev. Pervis Johnson as eulogist. Burial will follow in Harmony Pirtle Cemetery in Overton, Texas.  Arrangements are under the direction of Victory Funeral Services.

Mary was born one of twelve siblings in Kilgore, Texas on Saturday, June 1, 1929 to her parents, Lewis and Roberta Dansby Wheat and departed as the last of her generation on Friday, February 12, 2021 at her daughter’s residence in Longview, Texas.

Her service to God began with membership and being baptized at Gospel Temple Church of God in Christ where she served as Secretary of the church and in her latter days was deemed Mother of the Church. Since Gospel Temple was often a station church holding services on the first and third Sunday of the month; her dedication to the Lord led her to worship on the second and fourth Sundays over the years with Holy Chapel Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Rev. Sammie Allen.

During her youth, she attended Kilgore elementary public schools and ultimately Kilgore Colored High School.

Her working days consisted of employment doing domestic work in the private homes of the Florence and Gipson families.

When not working she could be found tending to her grand, great, and great-great-grandchildren; lovingly preparing their favorite meal for a Sunday dinner. This love was shared with her church family as well.

In early adulthood she married Robert Brittain and one son was born to the union. Later on June 19, 1947, she united in matrimony with Aaron Wilson and six children were born completing her family of eight children with her eldest son.

Her husband, parents, son, Curtis Wheat, daughters, Phyllis Haskin and Olene Ramsey, grandchild, Attacia Haskin, sisters, Ruby Mae Ferguson, and Katherine Davis, brothers, Laverne Wheat, Henry Wheat, Claude Wheat, Wallace Wheat, Joe Wheat, Josephus Wheat, James Wheat, Henry Earl Wheat, and Rogers Wheat all preceded her in death.

Left to cherish her memories are her beloved children; daughters, Bobbie Faye Haskin of Longview, TX; Margaret Canada of Kilgore, TX; Irene Young of Lubbock, TX; sons, Richard Brittain, Aaron Wilson, Jr., C. W. Wilson, and Willie Don Wilson and his wife, Cecilia all of Overton, TX; nine grandchildren, Shawn Wilson and his wife Sherrie of Pomona, CA; Ryan Haskin and his wife, Melanie of Longview, TX; LaToya Haskin-Shaw and her husband, Greggory of Conway, AR; Mykea Canada of Dallas, TX; Ieshia Wilson and Davontae Wilson both of Longview, TX; Ladenisha Wilson of Henderson, TX; and Adain Wilson of Overton, TX, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, special friend, Ruby Wheat of Longview, TX; special niece, Betsy Ferguson Jackson of Overton, TX; and a host of friends and relatives.

Viewing will be held at Victory Funeral Services on Friday, February 26, 2021 from 2 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. via drive-thru or exterior walk-up.

Social distancing and masks will be required of all attendants at the funeral service.
